Having a to-do List

Happy working week engineers. As part of our aim in building capacity for engineers in work place for a productive output. We will be shearing this with us which is the continuation of our topic "having a to do list".

3 TYPES OF ‘TO-DO’ LISTS

True success comes from knowing what to do. As the first month of the year closes, take out some time to think through how the year has been. It is important that we maintain short accounts with ourselves and our activities so that nothing takes us by surprise. If you didn’t do this last December, this may be your opportunity.

There are 3 main types of ‘to-do’ lists that you must seek to create for yourself now.

1. STOP-DOING LIST
Take a flash back into the past years, and being sincere with yourself, ask what are the things I’ve been doing that are not effective? What things have I been doing that are not yielding results? Or what things have I been doing that are no longer relevant to the realities of today? If a method has outlasted its age, then you might as well drop it or revise it.

2. START-DOING LIST
What things am I supposed to be doing to have better results? What things should I do that if I succeed in them would mark greater opportunities for influence and growth? What things do I know I could do or ought to do, but have always lacked the courage to begin? What has been working for someone ahead of you in your line of business that you could also adopt? What new places should you visit? What new people should you meet? What new things should you ask or demand for? What feats should you dare? What steps must you take? You will never what will work or not until you try.

3. KEEP-DOING LIST
Items in this category are the basics. They are things that you must just do if you want to keep being relevant. You must never lose sight of the things that you did to bring you to this level of success you now enjoy. They include the things you do in private when no one knew about your existence. If we share the same values, some of these will include reading, thinking, meditating, praying and positive confessions. What things have always worked for you? What are the basic requirements for the success of your business? A farmer must keep weeding, planting and protecting his crops. A musician must keep stretching her voice. A writer must keep writing. A businessman must keep investing and exploring new business opportunities. No matter what you do, if you miss out these items, you will start experiencing retrogression.

So, it’s time to advance. Keep reviewing, retooling and re-strategizing.

To your productivity.
