PROTOCOLS
PREAMBLE
We are delighted to have all
of you here today! Thank you very much for being part of today’s epoch making
event. As we are gathered in this
auditorium today, many of our colleagues and friends around the globe are watching
this event live, through online streaming on YouTube. My joy knows no bound
today with this remarkable crowd. We welcome you all!
PURPOSE OF GATHERING
We have gathered here today
to induct our determined Graduate and Corporate Members who by all standards
have distinguished themselves in skill and learning in the field of
Engineering. We have gathered here to also recognize the efforts of some
distinguished Personalities who have excelled and carved a niche for themselves
in their various field of specialization by honouring them with Awards.
Finally, to listen to a Septuagenarian who will be delivering a thought
provoking lecture titled; Global Energy Sector Responses to Climate Change.
Prof. Olayiwola Fagbenle, a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, was
the pioneer Chairman of the Osogbo Branch of NSE (1982-1986) and presently the
Chairman Governing Council of Osun State College of Technology Esa Oke.
We will also be formally
presenting 6 students of the Faculty of Engineering for the prestigious NSE
Osogbo Branch Award. These gallant Students have met and excelled in all the
necessary academic requirements as prescribed by this University. They have also been found worthy in character
as far as we know. It is hoped that this arrangement will bring additional
benefits, particularly to Students, the Faculty and Nigerian Society of
Engineers, at large.
GOALS IN PURSUIT OF OUR VISION AND MISSION
Distinguished Guests, our
vision of becoming a more responsive, recognized and viable branch of NSE
within the shortest possible time, remains constant and focused. To this end,
we have continued to double our efforts in three main areas of this regime.
The construction and
completion of our purpose-built, Permanent Branch Secretariat, located at the back
of Zarah Guest House, Ajagbemonkeferi, Onward Area, Osogbo;
Increase in membership drive
by engaging in more impactful professional activities.
Building of academic
partnerships and linkages among our Tertiary Institutions, Government
Establishments and Media Organizations, to enhance our capacity.
ACHIEVEMENTS
-Establishment of Osogbo
Examination Centre which today can be rated as one of the best in the Country
-Osogbo Branch won 2nd Best
Branch at the 2015 Group Dynamics Competition among other 63 Branches, +
-NSE Osogbo youtube channel
which caters for the Live streaming of all NSE programs and events.
-Partnership with the Osun
State University on professional trainings of intending and corporate members.
-NSE Osogbo Permanent
Secretariat
Construction of the Permanent
Secretariat, foundation of which was laid on 8th June, 2006 during
the regime of Engr Nurudeen Adeagbo FNSE as the Chairman has its adjoining hall
completed and currently in use. The adjoining hall is one the seven main halls
designed for the Secretariat for meetings and other professional activities.
The partitioning of the offices of Chairman and the Secretary were done last
year and have been put to use while construction of the Multi-purpose Hall is
the main focus for now. We are convinced that, by the grace of God, the
Multi-purpose Hall, among other works will be completed soon, before the end of
my tenure this year.
NATIONAL ISSUES
Distinguished Ladies and
Gentlemen, we are participating in today’s event precisely because most of us
here, if not all, believe that in today’s world, education is key to progress
and prosperity of individuals, communities, and nations. As J. F. Kennedy,
former president of the United States of America once said our progress as a
nation, can be no swifter than our progress in education. The human mind is our
fundamental resource. This is the reason why when it comes to matters affecting
education in our country, we need to handle them objectively, devoid of
partisan political considerations. As a nation, we should be prepared, and
indeed willing to sacrifice our last naira to educate the last soul, because
education is our future and our future is education.
Malcom X once said; Education
is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it
today. We must therefore make sure that people who have the grades, the desire
and the will, but not the money, can still get the best education possible.
INDUCTEES
You have a world to win! You
can make a difference and you dare not fail! You have in your hands, the power
to create the kind of life you want to live, and also help create the kind of
world, and a kind of nation you want to see. YOU MUST BE DIFFERENT! Go as an
ambassador with a mission and a mandate. Go and change your world. May the good
Lord give you the grace to do that.
Your regular attendance at
your desired Branch General Meetings and all engineering programs will go a
long way in assisting you to access essential services. You are also expected
to pay regularly all your fees at the branch. I urge you to do away with
anything that could form a clog in the wheel of progress of the society but
rather to support the present administration under the leadership of Engr Otis
Oliver Anyaeji FNSE, in moving the Society forward.
APPRECIATION
My list is endless but I must
appreciate the Governor of the State, Ogbeni Engr Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, FNSE
who despite all odds give his time to identify with NSE Osogbo and accord due
recognition to Engineers in the State. To all our Awardees of today, you are
all Men of honour and integrity, gentlemen as quiet as doves. All your models
are thus held up for admiration, imitation and emulation.
I want to appreciate all my
Predecessors for their support and the inspirations in steering the ship of our
Branch. To all Members of the Branch, I say thank you for your commitments. You
have always been my backbone. To the Management and Staff of Osun State
University, I need to commend the leadership for the transformation you are
selflessly, silently but effectively bringing about in the great university.
This collaboration is quite ingenious and is the way to go in the quest for
greater professionalism in all branches of engineering. We appreciate all our
Awardees for the acceptance.
To all my Executives and
Members, I pledge to continue to create a conducive environment, provide the
resources, and focused leadership for you at all time. In our team are vibrant
young people with lots of energy and enthusiasm. I hope that the energy you
have shall be used to your best for the benefit of yourselves and others. This
couldn’t have been possible if not for your encouragement. I want to assure you
that your participation will ensure our continuous dominance in all areas of
endeavour.
CONCLUSION
Distinguished Ladies and
Gentlemen, Barack Obama, once said, Change will not come if we wait for some
other person or some other time. We are the ones they are waiting for. We are
the change that we seek and I will say the time for change is now. All of us
are called to be leaders, no matter our status, old or young, man or woman,
rich or poor. All of us have an inbuilt, God given capacity, to be responsible,
to rule, to be productive and to take charge. We have the capacity to take the
people that we have been given the opportunity to lead, from where they are to
where they ought to be! Go, and Change your world.
Members are particularly
encouraged to be innovative and come up with viable ideas which can attract and
project the image of the NSE. If you have talent you will have the opportunity
to use it and who knows you can make a living out of it, as many other people
have done!
Finally, I wish you all the
best, an exciting, rewarding, challenging and stimulating time, which will be
the start of what I hope will be a lifelong experience as members of this
honourable profession.
Once again, Welcome and God
Bless!
