The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Students chapter of the
Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers organized a student seminar on the
23rd of July 2016 and the theme of the seminar was “the stepping stones of being a mechanical engineer”. Among those present are the former National
Chairman of NIMechE, Engr Prof. Ademola Adisa Bello, the Deputy National
Chairman of NIMechE, Engr Dr. Ejilah Robinson, the Bauchi branch chaiman of
NIMechE, Engr Emmanuel Anbua, Engr Alhassan Mohammed Abdu, lecturers and
students of the Department of mechanical engineering Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University
Bauchi, lecturers from the Department of mechanical engineering technology
Federal Polytechnic Bauchi and representatives of the Nigerian Institution of
Mechanical Engineers students chapter; The Federal Polytechnic Bauchi.
Some of the presentations made during the seminar were “how to become a mechanical engineer” by the former National Chairman of NIMechE,
Engr Prof. Ademola Adisa Bello which featured the link between ATBU, NIMechE,
NSE and COREN, definition of science, engineering, technology and mechanical
engineering. Also featured in his presentation are the objectives and values of
engineering education, the different cadres in the engineering family etc; “the role of vocational and
technical education in nation building: an engineer’s perspective” by the Deputy National Chairman of NIMechE, Engr Dr.
Ejilah Robinson which featured transformative power of education, vocational
and technical education at a glance, the daunting task of nation building, role
of education in nation building etc; “risk
management and value creation” by Nurudeen Muhammad Dankaka (a 400 level student)
which featured the definition of hazard and risk, fatal injury statistics, risk
management, hazard and effect management process, bow-tie analysis and value
creation.
Awards were also presented to students with the highest CGPA’s
at various levels. Am very impressed with ATBU students chapter of NIMechE for
organizing such an educative seminar and they should put more grease to their
elbows.
To my own personal views, NIMechE is one of the strongest and most active divisions of NSE. I said so because, to my knowledge
NIMechE is the only division of NSE that has a regular interaction with its
students members all over various institutions across the country and as
NIMechE has distinguished itself from other divisions, the NSF of NIMechE will
also make the parent body proud by putting in their best in organizing more
educative seminars.
Thanks.
Compiled By Abubakar Abdullahi Danjuma, department of mechanical
engineering technology, federal polytechnic Bauchi.
