This is even as he noted that since 95 percent of government work is engineering-based that there is a need for engineers to take center stage at all levels of intervention.
He stated this in Abuja yesterday when receiving a Certificate of Credence as the ‘Icon of Greater Nigeria and Nation Building’ by the members of Nigerian Youths Parliament, led by Majority Leader of the Parliament, Hon Umar Etudaye.
Insisting that NSE believed in legislation, regulations, standards, codes, practice, and guidelines, the president thanked the youth parliament for the recognition, with a promise to support the parliament materially and financially.
Anyaeji challenged them to push for new laws that would help in running the affairs of the country.
He however linked the infrastructure deficit to absence of legislation and refusal by the government to adhere to construction codes and standards adding that Nigeria is in dire need of infrastructure.
The president enjoined the parliament to make positive impact by convincing the legislators at both the federal, states and local government levels to make and implement laws that would be beneficial to Nigerians.
According to him, “The only difference between the presidential system of government and military regime is the parliament which is there to check and balance the executives because if the legislators were on ground to check and balance the executives, the economy will be stable”.
Responding, the Majority Leader of the Parliament, Hon Umar Etudaye said that youth parliament have become the future of many developing countries around the world adding that it groomed youths on the role of decision making.
He encouraged the NSE president to do more in changing the worrisome situation of infrastructure decay in Nigeria even as he noted that the financial assistance would aid the parliament in its social projects.
