Whoever come up with the idea of CSR probably did not know how much impact it would create in the world. The idea centre around the corporate establishments giving back into the development of their community in a strategic way. Many communities and individuals have therefore taped into this by showing they are not just doing business but also being socially responsible and culturally empathetic.
It is in this light that Toyota Nigeria recent donation cannot be overlooked. A drop in a ocean may look like nothing but torrential drops have led to Rivers. It is in this regard that we commend the effort of Toyota Nigeria under Kunle Ade-Ojo in channeling some of their Corporate Social Responsibilities toward uplifting the Engineering Education.
It is on record that many of our tertiary institutions lack basis Equipment for practical works. Automotive Technology is not an exception. Toyota Nigeria hence partnered with the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers via Lagos State Chapter Chairperson, Engr Mrs Funmi Akingbagbohun in distributing million naira worth of Automotive equipment to Universities across the country.
This was the second of the distribution as some universities and polytechnics have earlier been delivered.
Among the Institutions that were represented this time are:
Kano State University of Science and technology, Wudil, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomosho, Benue State University, .etc. Others institutions were represented by NIMechE Chapters in their state such as Ado Ekiti (Dr. Oni NIMechE Chairman Ado EKiti), Engr Kasso (NIMechE Chairman Benue State).
The Presentation was made at the end of the Institution's End of the Year Lecture and Award. The lecture, Gas to Power: Commonsense versus Politics was delivered by the erudite Engr Okechukwu J. Mbonu who is also a Fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers and Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Others in attendance are Mr. Randisvina Sharma, Head of Parts Department of Toyota Nigeria Limited, Mr Kola Ogundari, Admin Director of Toyota Nigeria, Dr Shamsudeen Saja Founder Oketude, Engr Akin Akintola (who represented the National Chairman, NIMechE)
