Energy Institute Nigeria has announced the first set of candidates for the Graduate Engineering Training Scheme (GETS).
The GETS programme, developed by Energy Institute Nigeria, is sponsored by the Royal Academy of Engineering’s (RAE) Global Challenge Research Fund (GCRF) Africa Catalyst Award and in partnership with Lonadek’s Cedar Centre for Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Energy Institute Nigeria said in a statement on Monday, that this pilot phase of the GETS program would focus on addressing the power gaps in Nigeria using conventional and non-conventional sources of energy.
It disclosed that the trainees would be exposed to mentoring by industry professionals and internship opportunities to bridge the knowledge gap between theory and actual practice.
It stated: “The GETS project core objective is to ensure sufficient, and appropriately skilled, local engineering capacity to participate in and drive national and regional development in sub-Saharan Africa. Corporate organizations are welcome to partner with the Energy Institute to support and ensure the replication of this scheme on a national level and in other sectors.”
