While Prof. Okechukwu Ukwuoma of National Centre for Technology Management, will deliver the inaugural address.
Orlu Branch, A long Road to actualisation
Nigerian society of Engineers Orlu Branch was initiated under the inspiration of Engr Sir Chukwuemeka Celestine Ugoanyanwu, of NSE Owerri Branch who campaigned for the establishment of additional two Branches of the NSE in Orlu and Okigwe, to ease off congested Owerri Branch and create more opportunities for Engineering graduates and practitioners in these cities who have not been able to associate with the only Branch in Imo state due to lack of propinquity and having been the only existing Branch in the state for the past 37 years of its creation.
A six man committee was constituted called “New Branch Nurture Committee” to liaise with other Engineers in the neighboring City of Orlu. The Committee was saddled with responsibility of mobilising the Engineers in Orlu town and its environs with a view of seeking for approval for the establishing of a Branch in Orlu to coordinate and harness the activities of Engineers in the city, contribute their professional development and overall infrastructural development of the city and its environs.
The committee held its first meeting with other Engineers in Orlu at the Office of Head of works Department Orlu L.G.A secretariat. However, It later  request to the then Transition committee Chairman of Orlu Local government Barrister Mrs. Ijeoma Igboanusi for allocation of space to engineers at the LG, was  approved and hence, the Orlu Engineers meeting place and office secured.
The approval for official establishment of the Orlu Branch of NSE was approved by the Council of Nigerian Society Engineers at her 417th Council meeting in Abuja on 11th day of May, 2017 as the 66th Branch of this Distinguished Society, presided over by Engr Otis Oliver Anyaeji, FNSE, FAEng, The president of Nigerian Society of Engineers.
Here we are, together as we officially inaugurate the New Branch with Engr Chidozie John Okereke as the pioneer Branch Chairman.
Top on our agenda shall be a renewed commitment to the promotion of Engineering profession, getting a permanent Site for the Branch, having an Examination/Training Center to sustain our membership drive, the Welfare and career of members, to be among the leading branches in NSE and a bus for the Branch etc. – Engr Chidozie Okereke
