NIGCOMSAT, NSE TO PARTNER ON RURAL INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT AND EMPOWERMENT

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has secured the support of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (Nigcomsat), to partner on rural development projects. This was the major agreement when the NSE President, Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu, FNSE received the Managing Director/Chief Executive of Nigcomsat, Ms Abimbola Alale at the National Engineering Centre (NEC) Headquarters, Abuja, today Tuesday, January 30, 2018.
Mokuolu disclosed plans to flag off a robost rural infrastructure development programme tagged ‘ENGINEERING INFRASTRUCTURE FOR UNITY AND PROGRESS IN NIGERIA’. He said projects tailored towards improving the living condition of the rural population were crucial and needed to be prioritized.
The President further said that the provision of such essential infrastructure would not only stem the menace of youth restiveness but also impact economic activities at the grassroots level. The President noted that modern technology was required at the rural areas to keep the populace informed for them to be in tune with the level of advancement generally.
In response, the Nigcomsat Chief Executive disclosed the willingness of her company to partner NSE on the provision of information technology infrastructure and many other essential projects. She bemoaned the slow pace of broadband penetration in the rural areas in Nigeria urging immediate step in the direction of making such facility available as part of the effort at halting the rural urban migration.
Ms Alale informed the NSE President of the willingness of Nigcomsat to partner NSE on training of Engineers and to create jobs for them. She also asked the President to articulate the areas of partnership for both bodies to commence work immediately.
She thanked the President for the warm reception. She congratulated the President on his successful investiture, assured him of Nigcomsat support and prayed for his success as he pilots the affairs of the Society.
