KEYNOTE SPEECH BY THE NATIONAL CHAIRMAN,
ENGR. OLALEKAN EMEKA SULAIMAN AJANI, FNSE, FNIEE DELIVERED AT THE NIGERIAN
INSTITUTION OF ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERS STUDENTS AFFLIATE (NIEESA), NATIONAL
EXECUTIVES INAUGURATION ON SATURDAY, 13th FEBRUARY, 2021.
It is certainly a great honor to welcome
you all to this Inauguration of the Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers
Students Affiliate (NIEESA), National Executives, with the theme – ‘NIEE AND
NIEESA: A STRATEGY FOR SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT’.
It is with great pleasure I appreciate all our invited
special and distinguished guests, NIEE fellows as well as all members of this
Environment Students here today. A wonderful afternoon to you all as I welcome you to this inauguration
of NIEESA National Exco members where progress related to the professional
development of students and Graduate Environmental Engineers would be discussed.
According to a Chinese Proverb “If you
are planning for a year, sow rice; If you are planning for a decade, plant
trees; If you are planning for a lifetime, educate people“ Hence, NIEE has the
special honour to educate and empower student engineers, who, in turn, will
empower and teach more on having a sustainable environment. This is a very
sacrosanct goal that NIEE corporate members and fellows have towards its future
heirs.
At today's Inauguration, there will be
opportunity for us to share thoughts on how to sustain this synergy for a
sustainable environment as well as solving the myriads of Environmental
challenges affecting our Nation and the entire globe. We must connect the town
to the gown to achieve the objective of a sustainable environment.
Connecting NIEE and NIEESA is a win – win
situation for both parties to network and build their dreams. Robert Kiyosaki
said “The richest people in the world look for and build networks. Everyone
else looks for work” In the process of networking jobs would come, mentor –
protégé relationship would be established, ecofriendly innovation would be initiated
and empowerment opportunity would be created amongst other.
With the above synergy and outcome more
engineering students from all disciple would develop interest to sustain our
environment using the principles of engineering, soil science, biology,
and chemistry to develop solutions to our environmental problems. They
would work as a team from all disciple of engineering to improve wastewater
treatment, plastic waste reduction, water conservation, stormwater management,
green agriculture and denitrification while ensuring the sustainable
development goals are achieved for a better environment. This would obviously enhance
Nigeria’s success rate of improving her public health statistic.
The Inauguration of the Indefatigable Hon.
Nnamdi Azubuike led Exco happening today is another leap ahead for NIEE towards
a sustainable environment for our unborn generation. I sincerely wish the
entire team the wherewithal to continue to advance NIEESA in deploying local
solution from the ivory tower to several environmental concerns and challenges.
Lastly, I wish members from amongst all
Engineering disciples a very impactful year ahead in raising the relevance of NIEESA
in their respective Higher Institution.
I urge you all to canvass for new members
and support the new executives in order to have a sustainable environment.
NIEE… Towards a sustainable environment.
