The Nigerian Society of Engineers Holds Investiture Of It’s First Female President in 65-Year History

The Nigerian Society of Engineers on Saturday, January 20th, 2024, will hold an investiture ceremony for its 34th president, Engr. Margaret Oguntala, at the African Hall, International Conference Centre, Abuja.


The prestigious ceremony to welcome the first female president of the NSE will be held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, and is expected to commence at 10:00 a.m. The event will feature various programmes, including the official swearing-in, remarks from the new president and other key figures within the engineering community.


Elected on December 21st, 2023, Engr. Margaret Oguntala bears the hallmark of being the association’s first female president in its 65-year existence. However, she has been a member of the society since 1996 and became a fellow in 2010. From 2010 to 2021, the president has served in different capacities, including Chairman of the Ikeja branch, National Exco member, Vice president and deputy president.



As an NSE veteran, Engr. Oguntala, a three-time Vice President of the association, holds an impressive record, having received over 53 awards. Among these accolades are the prestigious NSE Presidential Awards. She has also been honoured with the APWEN Innovative Leader Award, APBN Meritorious Service awards, and recognitions from various NSE Branches and Divisions.


Speaking on her assumption of office, the new president shared her vision to build a strong foundation for engineering excellence with her wealth of knowledge and experience, along with collaboration and teamwork with everyone.


She said “We look forward to this year as one that bears testament to our shared commitment to engineering excellence, free from biases or encumbrances. Consequently, I dutifully beckon everyone to join hands with us as we commence the work of building formidable layers on the strong foundation already laid. It is a new dawn, and our time starts now.”


The NSE is set to welcome Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike, House of Representatives Speaker Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, and other top government functionaries to the investiture.
