President Tinubu Pushes For Affordable Vehicles For Nigerians

By Temitope Mustapha,

Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged the African Association of Automotive Manufacturers and the Nigerian Automotive Manufacturers to prioritise the production of affordable vehicles accessible to all Nigerians.

This call comes as the government finalises plans to offer consumer credit to millions, facilitating vehicle purchases.

Emphasising the importance of quality, President Tinubu urged manufacturers to ensure locally made vehicles meet high standards, aligning with the government’s efforts to revitalise the industry.

He made these remarks on Friday during a meeting with the African Association of Automotive Manufacturers and the Nigerian Automotive Manufacturers Association, led by Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Ms. Doris Uzoka-Anita.

Represented by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, the President reiterated his administration’s commitment to Nigeria’s industrialisation, highlighting ongoing policy implementations.

Gbajabiamila pledged to expedite the passage of legislation crucial for the automotive industry’s advancement, expressing gratitude to the visiting associations.

The delegation, in turn, appreciated the President’s audience and affirmed their commitment to his Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Association spokesperson commended President Tinubu’s efforts in kickstarting vehicle and spare parts manufacturing in Nigeria.

The Association also informed the President’s Chief of Staff about an impending legislative bill aimed at bolstering the automotive sector, currently under review by the Federal Ministry of Justice.

It emphasized the need to develop the industry, which would create massive employment for Nigerian youths and ease the burden on the much-needed foreign exchange.

The Delegation consisted of the Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC); representatives of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), as well as Executive Directors of Stallion Group, Toyota/CEAO and NISSAN.
