The Vice President of Bay Matrix Group USA, a US based Energy Company, headquartered in Houston, Texas, Engr Ngowari Diminas has been elected as the First Female and Fourth Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE Houston Branch, writes isqil Najim
This come in at the end of the Annual General Meeting of the Branch held last weekend in Houston, Texas, United States of America.
She is assuming the mantle of leadership following the expiration of tenure of Dr Solomon Inikori who served the Branch in meritorious capacities in the last two years.
Diminas, a Fellow of Nigerian society of Engineers will be the first female to be elected as the chairman of the young Branch.
MyEngineera reports that Houston Branch was the first of the foreign Branches of NSE that was officially Inaugurated during the tenure of Engr Adekunle Mokuolu.

Ngowari Diminas is a niece of a former President of Nigerian Society of Engineers, (NSE), Engr. Henry Imariagbe Igiehon, FNSE, who lead the NSE at national in 1978-1979. Before he passed away on July 8, 2011, Engr. Igiehon was once: Chairman, Auchi Polytechnic; Chairman, Delta Steel Company, Aladja, Nigeria; Obaghayomwan of Benin Kingdom, Nigeria; a Former Chief Engineer and Director of Works, University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s Premier University.
A Native of Rivers State, Engr. Ngowari Diminas (née Ihua) is a product of University of Port-Harcourt, Rivers State where she bagged a Bachelor’s degree (B.Eng.) in Chemical Engineering in 2003. She attended Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland where she bagged a Master’s degree (MSc) in Oil & Gas Engineering in 2006. Her passion for education and personal development led her to attending several courses, conferences, seminars, and project management courses. She received her project management professional (PMP) certification in 2014. She got an Executive Master’s degree (Executive MBA) in Business Administration specialized in Global Leadership at the University of Houston in 2020.
She is currently the Vice President (VP), Projects and Operations for Bay Matrix Group (USA) and the Deputy Managing Director (DMD), Engineering & Projects for Westpaq Engineering Nigeria Ltd (Nigeria). She is the founder of CAFEW – Connecting All Female Engineers Worldwide (since 2016).
She has worked in several organizations, different countries during which her expertise has covered Facilities Engineering, Pipeline Engineering, Process Engineering, Pipeline/Facilities Construction, Project Management, Pipeline Integrity & Risk Management, Gas Facilities. She specializes in Projects Business Development, Consulting, Planning, Implementation, Commissioning, and Operations.
Her experience cuts across many notable projects in several countries and in Nigeria.
Prior to becoming Chairman, Diminas has been serving Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, at both National and Branch levels in various capacities. Among which are: Board member of the NSE Engineering Technology and Innovation Management Board (2022 & 2023); General Secretary – NSE Houston Branch (2020 – 2022) ; and Assistant General Secretary – NSE Houston Branch. (2018 – 2020).
A COREN Registered Engineer, she is a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Professional Institute of Pipeline Engineers (PIPE), Project Management Institute (PMI).
She is married to Samuel Diminas and they have two children.

The Energy Branch, First official NSE Branch In Diaspora
The Branch, which can be aptly described as “The Energy Branch” due to the high concentration of Energy, Oil and Gas professionals as members and also its location in Houston, arguably the Energy Capital of the World, as it hosts headquarters and the intellectual capital for virtually every segment of the energy industry, was inaugurated on Thursday, May 3, 2018 by President Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu.
The Nigerian Society of Engineers Houston Branch was registered in the State of Texas on March 23, 2018 as a non-profit professional organization. The first General Meeting was held on April 20, 2018 at the conference room of the Department of Engineering at the Texas Southern University where the NSE Houston Branch Byelaws were adopted, and the officers were elected.
The Pioneer Chairman of the Branch, Engr. Fisoye Delano, gave insight into the Branch’s journey to reality. He said the conception of the Branch started on September 10, 2017, when Engr. Adekunle Mukuolu, as then Deputy President and President-Elect of NSE met with Bayode Atanyebi and Engr Fisayo Delano in Spring Texas to share the dream of implementing the formation of international Branches for the NSE starting in the UK and the USA. This was based on realisation that Nigerians professionals abroad are critical to human capital development progress in the country.
Speaking further, Delana said that the prospective US locations he (Mokuolu) had in mind were Houston, New York and Los Angeles. He informed the duo that the NSE had been working closely with the President Buhari’s administration to high grade the involvement of Nigeria Engineers in the development of our nation. He revealed that Mokuolu anticipated, at the time, an enactment of a new policy on engineering contracts awards by the Nigerian government.
Speaking at the event, Delano further said that the focus of the NSE Houston Branch is the open opportunities for NSE members in the US to be aware and ready to participate in the growth of Nigeria and to provide a channel for companies in Nigeria and engineers in Nigeria to access the know-how and technological resources for mutual advantages. It is also to encourage Nigerian engineers who moved abroad to take advantage of policy development at home and participate in the country’s engineering activities. .
My Engineers Reports that the Presidential Executive Order 5 for Planning and Execution of Projects, Promotion of Nigerian Content in Contracts and Science, Engineering and Technology would later subsequently by signed on February 2018. The key provision of this order is that indigenous companies and content are to be preferred over their foreign counterparts in certain contract awards. Currently, a new legislation is ongoing national Assembly to make the policy a permanent legal component of Nigerian law.
NSE Houston Branch has been led by visionaries such as Engr Fisoye Delano (Pioneer chairman), Mr. Segun Jebutu (Second chairman) and Dr. Solomon Inikori (Immediate past chairman)
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) is an umbrella organization for engineers in Nigeria. Formed in 1958 by 32 radical young engineers and students in London, United Kingdom as a patriotic move to resist discrimination and seek enhanced opportunities for the Nigerian engineer. It was relaunched in Nigeria upon the arrivals of Founders in Nigeria on 19th January, 1959 in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
NSE with its over 60, 000 registered members, is arguably is the largest engineering organisation in Africa. It has over 80 Branches and morr than 15 Divisions across the country. Since inaugurating Houston Branch, other International Branches in Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom and Canada has been established.
