Tinubu set to appoint new NNPCL CEO, board chairman

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reportedly making leadership changes at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), with plans to replace the current Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari.

According to Empowered News Wire, Bayo Ojulari, a former Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), is expected to take over as the new CEO.

Additionally, Ahmadu Musa Kida, a former Deputy Managing Director of Total Oil, has been selected as the new Chairman of the Board, replacing Chief Pius Akinyelure, who has held the position since 2023.

Reports indicate that Kyari will remain in office until March 1, after which Roland Ewubare will step in as the Group Chief Operating Officer. Ewubare previously resigned from NNPC following reports of disagreements with Kyari.

Ojulari, a seasoned petroleum engineer, has held leadership roles in Nigeria, Europe, and the Middle East. He served as Managing Director of SNEPCo from 2015 to 2021.

Kida, a Nigerian engineer from Borno State, brings decades of experience in the oil and gas industry, having worked with Total Nigeria since 1985. He has served as Deputy Managing Director for Deep Water Services and held board positions in Total’s upstream operations.
