Mr Babachir Lawal, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has tasked the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) and the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) to deploy Information Technology to fight crime.
A statement signed by Mr Bolaji Adebiyi his Director of Press, said Lawal made the statement on Tuesday in Abuja when the leadership of the two associations paid him a courtesy visit. He called on the associations to come up with concrete proposals on how best to deploy information technology to fight all forms of crime in the country.
The statement said Lawal urged the NSE to exploit the possibility of assisting the Federal Government create employment in the areas of infrastructure development, mining, manufacturing and agriculture. He said that engineers could also help in counter terrorism, since the activities of terrorists involved communication engineering.
He assured the leadership of the two organisations that proposals coming from them as experts, would receive the attention of the government. The SGF said government would welcome contributions from professional bodies to enrich policy formulation and implementation as well as enhance government decision making process. He assured the associations of the resolve of President Mohammadu Buhari administration to improve national security, fight corruption and create jobs for unemployed Nigerians.
