Call for Papers: NSE National Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting "Abuja 2017"




The Nigerian Society of Engineers invites Technical Papers for 2017 National Engineering Conference holding at Chida Events Centre, Utako, Abuja between November 20th - 24th, 2017.

Theme:
"Diversification of Nigerian Economy: ENGINEERING PERSPECTIVE"

OBJECTIVES
• Analyze the current policy direction and the state of critical infrastructure required to propel diversification of the nation's economy.
• Characterize the comparative advantages of the various endowments of the nation and draw strategies on how to leverage on them to enhance the performance of the nation's production Sector.
• Review the challenges that retard the local production capability of the nation and strategize how to support import substitution and export promotion of goods and services.
• Develop a sustainable human and institutional capacity development plan to drive the economic diversification and make Nigeria competitive,
• Design an integrated and coordinated approach that would stimulate sector synergy and collaboration at national, regional, state and local government levelsto ensure sustainablegrowth of rural economies.
• Advocate for the promotion of private sector led monitoring, evaluation and feedback mechanisms in infrastructura I development and utilization. • Develop a framework for the promotion of ease of doing business that would stimulate sustainable private sector investments.

SUB-THEMES
The following sub-themes shall be addressed among others:
1.  Indispensability of quality and reliable physical and social infrastructure for sustainable economic diversification,
2. Strategies to revive local manufacturing Industries for import substitution and export promotion in areas of competitive advantage: Engineering Industries (Machine tools, Automotives, Locomotives, Marines, Electrical Electronics, Textile Equipment, Boilers and Pressure Vessels, Conveyors and lifting devices) Chemical and Petrochemical Industries Minerals and Metalurgical Industries, Agro Allied Industries, ICT and Automation Industries.
3. Quality standards and assurance in Engineering Industries, Chemicals & Petrochemicals; Minerals & Metallurgical; Agro Allied, ICT & Automation Industries for competitiveness.
4. Regulatory and legal reforms necessary for quality delivery of engineering services in the following areas: laboratory, inspections, testing, certifications, drilling, logistics, appraisals etc.
5, Capacity development for enhanced Maintenance, Repairs & Fabrications; Vencloring of Machinery & Equipment, and Engineering Materials.
6. Pathway to Strengthen Nigerian Engineering firms in Consulting, Contracting and Manufacturing for competitiveness.
7. institutionalization and Promotion of responsive R&D, technology adaptation through SMEs for maximum exploitation of endowments to address critical needs.
8. Framework for advancing engineering education for the emergence of entrepreneurs and promotion of rural economy on a sustainable basis.
9. Unleashing the power of intellectual property rights (IPR) to encourage and promote product development and branding.

EXHIBITIONS
Industrialists, developers, Universities, Research and Development Organizations, etc are invited to display their products/innovations during the conference. Details can be obtained from the national headquarters of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARATION OF THE MANUSCRIPT
1. Presentation Medium:
Manuscripts accepted for the Conference must be submitted in electronic form as a single electronic file on CD-ROM or Flash Drive. The current software format is that of Microsoft Word (MS-Word) latest edition.

2. Illustrations and graphics: All drawings shall be prepared electronically with software compatible with Microsoft Office suite (e.g. MS-PowerPoint, Visio) and integrated seamlessly into the MS-Word document. Photographs shall also be digitized into J PEG format and inserted seamlessly into the MS-Word document

3. Equations
Mathematical equations shall be constructed within the MS-Word document, using the Microsoft Equation Editor included with the MS-Office suite.

4. Tables
All tables shall be labeled at the top with the word "Table" followed by a sequential numerical letter.

5. Layout
Paper size: A4
Margins:
Left margin: 3cm      Right margin: 3cm
Top margin:  3cm      Bottom margin: 3cm
