Nigerian Engineers tackle the Diversification of Economy, as Engr Margaret Oguntala and two others gave out Prizes to Best Female Engineering graduates in Lagos

It was an event filled with excitement and reflections on the Nigerian economy at National Engineering Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, where the Association of Professional Women Engineers in Nigeria, APWEN under the leadership of Engr Angelique Ikwuka, MNSE held their 2017 Public Lecture which has become a platform for the Association to contribute to the public public polices by X-raying critical issues of National importance from the engineering point of view.

Leading the deliberation on the Theme: Diversification of Nigerian Economy: The Roles of Engineers, was Engr Femi Okunade, MNSE, Managing Director, Xerox HS Nigeria. Engr Okunade touches on the root of Nigerian Mono economy and made series of recommendations on the pathway to Engineering involvement in the economic revitalization.

The event also combined with Award for the Distinguished Engineers and the best Female Graduates in Engineering in Lagos. This is to encourage and motivate more female engineers toward achieving excellence in the profession.



Miss Agadi Joy Gift of Lagos State Polytechnics, Ikorodu (LASPOTECH) won the Margaret Oguntala Prize in Chemical Engineering;

Miss Adesomoji Oreofe Blessing of Yaba College of Technology, Yaba (YABATECH) won the Felicia Agubata Prize in Electrical Engineering;

Miss Omotuyi Oyindamola Ajoke of University of Lagos, Akoka (UNILAG) won the Olayinka Abdul Prize in System Engineering.

For the Seniors, Engr Akintunde Akinteye, Vice President of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr Femi Okunade and others were honoured for their contributions to the growth of engineering.

Inspiring personalities and Professionals from different backgrounds graced the event. Among them are, Engr Mrs Joan Maduka, FNSE, FNAE, founding President of APWEN and current President of Nigerian Academy of Engineering; Engr Tunde Akinteye, FNSE, Vice President, Nigerian Society of Engineers; Engr Femi Okunade, MNSE and wife, Mrs Gbemi Okunade; Engr Margaret Oguntala, FNSE, 3 times Vice President of Nigerian Society of Engineers; Engr Olayinka Abdul, FNSE, Past President, APWEN; Engr A, Moyosore, MNSE, Chairman NSE Victoria Island Branch; Engr Akin Akintola, Chairman NSE Ikeja Branch and others ...

The Deputy Governor of Lagos state was represented by Mrs Lara Erogbogbo, Executive Secretary, Lagos State Technical Vocational Education Board; while the Engr Dr Oladele Amoda, FNSE, Managing Director and CEO Eko Distribution Plc, DISCO was represented by Engr Uzoh I. Obialeri, Head (Operation & Maintenance) Eko Electricity Distribution Plc.
