On Friday  12th July 2019 the Atabong Bridge which links Eket LGA to other parts of the State was heated for several hours by fire from a boat set ablaze by Military Joint Task Force on anti-bunkering activities. A delegation of members of Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers Akwa Ibom State Chapter (which is a division of Nigerian Society of Engineers) led by their Chairman Engr Akaninyene Ekong visited the site for an immediate assessment of the bridge and it's environment. It was reported that according to eye witnesses account the Military personnel intercepted a boat laden with Petroleum products and set it ablaze with the contents on the River. The burning boat with multiple drums of the Petroleum product which was allerged to be diesel drifted by the river current got stuck under the bridge and burnt for several hours. It took the intervention of able bodied youth supervised by the Chairman of Eket for the burning boat to be pushed away from beneath the bridge.

All is set for the grand finale of the third Edition of the Professor Ayodele Awojobi Design Competition holding at the University of Lagos, Akoka. Imo State Government appointed the former NSE Chairman as Chairman of the Board of Imo Water Agency

The Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha has appointed the past Chairman of NSE Owerri Branch, Engr Emeka Ugoanyanwu as the Chairman of the Board of Imo Water Development Agency. Until recently, Engr Emeka Celestine Ugoanyanwu was the General Manager/Chief Executive of the Imo Water Development Agency(IWADA) from 2001 to 2014 and the immediate past Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Owerri. He started his Public Service career with the Imo State Government in 1987 and was deployed to then Imo Public Utilities Board and later Imo Water Corporation. Engr Ugoanyanwu was appointed the GM/CE of IWADA in 2001. He was a member of the National Technical Committee on Water Resources and National Council on Water Resources between 2002 and 2012. He served as a Consultant to the World Bank funded MDGs Water/Sanitation program in Imo State from 2008 to 2011. NIMechE Pays Tribute to NNPC GMD, Engr. Dr. Maikanti Kacalla Baru as He Retires Today.

The NIMechE National Chairman extolled the attributes of the out-going 17th Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Chairman, Nigerian Gas Association Advisory Board, Engr. Dr. Maikanti Kacalla Baru, FNIMechE, FNSE, FAEng in glowing terms as he proceeds on retirement today, Monday 7th July, 2019. Engr. Dr Robinson Ejilah in his message congratulated Dr Baru, for his very successful and meritorious years of service to the Nigerian foremost Oil and Gas industry.
