Nigerian Senate on Thursday screened the nominee of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dr. Mathew Adepoju for the position of the Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).
The lawmakers expressed happiness that Dr. Adepoju was the right man for the job, likened to a round peg in a round hole considering the fact that he was an insider whose curriculum vitae speaks volume for itself. Unlike other nominees whose representatives at the Senate would have to lobby for their clearances.
Indeed, the Senate Committee Chairman on Science and Technology, Sen. Suleiman Kawu Sumaila confirmed that none of his colleague lobbyed for the nominee’s express clearance, saying the nominee from his CV and previous anticedents was going to be a round peg in a round hole.
He noted that the Committee was going to recommend to the plenary for his confirmation because they were satisfied with the answers he gave to their questions on how he will add value to the agency.
However, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari advised the nominee to justify the confidence reposed on him by Mr President and the Senate who have screened and are going to confirm him for the job.
Buhari said, he has no doubt Dr. Adepoju will deliver on his mandate.
Dr. Adepoju, who is currently the acting DG of the agency, while fielding questions from the legislators informed them that the only challenges the agency is currently having is office space for staff and also finance.
Therefore, he pleaded with the Senators to help him in terms of appropriating adequately for the agency to enable him carry out his mandate with ease, adding that he is ever ready to justify the confidence reposed on him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and of course the Senate.
Meanwhile, he promised to pursued vigourously, capacity building of the staff of the agency to enable them give out their best for the country.
